About Ralph Brooker

Philosopher. Live in France. English. Male. First heard Tristano's "Wow" at 5 years of age. It's still in my head. Played alto and tenor saxes but changed to the piano.

I would rather listen to Lee Konitz unclip his horn case than a lot of stellar players. I'm not 'stuck' on Tristano/Marsh/Konitz/Mosca. But they are an enormous part of my secular spirituality.

I practice "Wow" every day. Used to on saxes, now on piano. People ask "what the hell is that tune?". So I scat it to them.

Only Lee left. A legacy, a legend.

I do resent some of the things that Tristano students have said of Lee. That's a weird psychological mind that can (and should) be divorces from Lennie's music.

Currently writing a book about philosopher Bernard Williams.
Another on Tristano/Warne/Lee/Sal.
