About Tony Green


Tony Green,born in Washington D.C. with family connections to the Howard Theatre where he met Duke Ellington, Nat King Cole,Pearl Bailey and others when he was a child.Tony began playing music at the age of 9 years old. Tony's first instrument was the trumpet and later the french horn and baritone horn. While playing in drum & bugle corps. in D.C. Tony became interested in drumming.Tony started playing gigs in the Washington DC area in the early 70s and was mentored by Donald Byrd,Herbie Hancock, Marshall Hawkins, Nathen Page, Maria Rodriguez and many more fine musicians of that time. As a drummer Tony has recorded, played with and been a member of Gil Scott- Heron & Brian Jackson's Midnight Band, Pharoah Sanders& Leon Thomas group, Plunky & Oneness of JuJu, Larry Young( Lawrence of Newark), Nathen Page Quartet, Azar Lawrence group,H.B. Barnum and Donald Byrd to name a few.
