About Tony Poole

Originally from London, a DJ since the late 70s, a club promoter in the 80s, a BBC radio presenter throughout the mid 90s (BBC Essex Jazz First) and a rare record business owner (ViRGO ViBES; Funky & Groovy Records). He would regularly be found stalling out at London's famous Black Music Record Fair, Russ Dewbury's Jazz Bop in Brighton and international record conventions.

Tony's musical taste stems from the sophisticated 70s Motown sound of Stevie Wonder & Marvin Gaye, and the classic jazz funk grooves of Roy Ayers, Herbie Hancock, Donald Byrd & Blue Note jazz.

Tony moved to Spain in 2001, and is currently a media coordinator for the San Javier Int'l Jazz Festival, and writes regular music columns for the local press.

Tony Poole joined the JazzTimes community on Oct 18, 2011
