About Robert Larson
Dr. Robert Larson, director of Jazz Studies at Shenandoah Conservatory, has been a member of the Shenandoah faculty since 1982, moving to Virginia after attending the University of Oregon. He teaches jazz piano as well as jazz courses in theory, arranging, history, and jazz literature. His textbook, Arranging for the Small Jazz Ensemble (Armfield Academic Press), was recently published and his articles have appeared in jazz and music education journals.
He directed the Shenandoah Conservatory Jazz Ensemble from 1988 to 2000, and under his direction the ensemble performed around the world, in China, Japan and Europe. As a pianist, he has performed at Blues Alley in Washington DC, as well as with the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra. He can be heard on Alan Baylock's critically acclaimed CD Two Seconds to Midnight and he also leads his own trio.
