About Sonalii Wardlaw
Sonalii is a painter, writer, photographer and jazz enthusiast. She began listening to jazz at a very young age and remembers attending her first jazz concert at the New York State Theater at Lincoln Center to see Duke Ellington a few years before his death in a tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. Her love of jazz has further been enhanced by stories told to her from both her parents, aunts and uncles who were in attendance at many of the NYC jazz clubs during their heyday, meeting and hearing such jazz luminaries as John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk and witnessing the start of the new generation of musicians, starting with Herbie Hancock. Presently, she is starting her own jazz tradition by attending jazz concerts at venues around the country and introducing her 9 year old niece to some of her favorite artists, particularly Wynton Marsalis.
