About Radovan Tariška


Radovan Tariska comes from a musical family. At the age of 5 he was encouraged to play music by his grandfather, who played clarinet and saxophone. He started to study clarinet at Primary art school in Tlmace (1991-1993), and continued to study saxophone at Conservatory of Zilina (1994-1998). Since 2001, Radovan is a member of Gustam Brom Big Band. In 2002, The Slovak Jazz Society honoured Radovan by „Jazzman of the year“; prize for an outstanding instrumental performance. His first CD - Elements, which he recorded with a piano player Ondrej Krajnak, was nominated for a Slovak Music Award as the jazz album of the year. In 2005 he created an international sextet with: Ryan Carniaux (trumpet, USA), Ondrej Stveracek (tenor saxophone, Czech Republic), Ondrej Krajnak (piano, Slovakia), Tomas Baros (double bass, Czech Republic), Marian Sevcik (drums, Slovakia). In 2010, he came up with a project Folklore to Jazz with Essiet Okon Essiet (bass), Benito Gonzalez (piano), David Hodek (drums). In 2013, his album Folklore to Jazz was nominated at Radiohead Awards and Esprit Awards as the best jazz album of the year.
