About Susanne Clark

Both a painter and printmaker Susanne's work is vibrant and colorful. She paints a variety of subjects but musical instruments have been her recent focus.

The Musical series began as the result of a commission. She was asked to create a painting as a gift for a music producer in Toronto. Because a cello has such beautiful curves it was a natural choice of subject. The musical theme was very inspiring and soon she expanded the series to include saxophones and violins. Her idea is not to realistically portray the instruments but to capture the emotional feeling evoked by music through the use of powerful images and rich colors.

Paintings from the series are in collections in the UK, Canada, Singapore and the USA. They have also been used, with her permission, as posters to advertise musical events in countries as far apart as Switzerland and Australia. One is on the cover of a music society cook book, a classical music CD and Jazzy Cello was used as a holiday greeting card for the Leeds Grand Theatre and Opera House, North Yorkshire, UK.
