Mount Vernon Country Club Celebrates Women in Jazz!
Women in Jazz month continues with a special performance by vocalist and composer, Gretchen Parlato, on Thursday, April 18th. When she released her second record, In A Dream in 2009, Billboard Magazine hailed it as “The Most Alluring Jazz Album of the Year.”
An alumni of the Thelonious Monk Institute, she won the 2004 Thelonious Monk Institute International Vocal Competition. Her sultry, intriguing voice captured the judges and continues to capture her audiences throughout the world. She has appeared on over 50 recordings with the likes of Terence Blanchard, Kenny Barron, Terry Lynn Carrington and Esperanza Spaulding. Her latest CD, Lost and Found is getting rave reviews. Check out Gretchen at www.gretchenparlato.com. On the 18th she will share the stage with Cuban born pianist, Fabian Almazan, guitarist/bassist, Alan Hampton and drummer, Mark Guiliana.
