Mastering the language of the text is one of the most important skills in speed reading. Difficult words make you stumble as you move from one paragraph to another. You can do better than other people if you can read at a faster rate. Any quiz bee can be won if you can read the question at a faster speed. You're not reading word for word, but by paragraph. Reviewing for an examination in a short period of time can be a pain if you're not a speed reader. This is especially true for crammers who study a day or two before the exam. While cramming can be considered something that is bad for those taking examinations, there are many people who still do it. Speed reading also involves improving your posture and your reading habit. Place the book on a table in front of you, so that your eyes are level while you read. Breathe properly, have good lighting on the text and do not slouch in your chair to maximize your speed reading skills.
