The article about Curt Elling was interesting but, based on the title, I was expecting something a little more normative. As far as I can tell, those “slippery parameters of vocal jazz” were not identified or discussed at all other than in the intro? When does a pop singer who does jazz material cross over to become the real thing? If Mr. Elling has an opinion on that we didn’t get to hear about it.
