WJO “has been operating in the jazz stratosphere, earning a reputation as one of the top jazz big bands now in business.” For this concert, the Orchestra will explore the works of pianist Thelonious Monk, who wrote close to 100 enduringly beautiful tunes that are among the most recorded jazz standards, and Gerry Mulligan, who was well known as both an extraordinary baritone saxophonist and superlative composer/arranger.
