This week our journey through jazz takes us to the lovely city of Charleston, South Carolina where they are currently hosting one of the foremost International Arts Festivals in the world; The Spoleto Festival USA, which has been happening every year for 17 days since 1977 featuring some of the best talent from around the world in every discipline.
To give you a taste of some of the jazz offerings at this year’s festival you’ll hear from Brazilian clarinetist Nailor “Proveta” Azevedo, Polish jazz pianist Leszek Mozdzer, the beautiful vocal stylings of Atlanta’s own Lizz Wright, Brazilian singer Fabiana Cozza who will be making her US debut at the Festival this week, and Grammy nominated guitarist Julian Lage. For more details on all the many events taking place covering all the arts, please visit http://www.spoletousa.org
I also showcase some of the international jazz legends performing as part of the City of Charleston’s adjacent arts festival - Piccolo Spoleto – such as Ellis Marsalis, Slide Hampton, Jimmy Heath, and Houston Person. For more details, please visit http://www.piccolospoleto.com
If you know of any jazz festivals happening anywhere in the world that you would like for me to feature, I’d love to oblige – just contact me at Scott@SoulandJazz.com - and keep those comments, questions and requests coming!
