The Melting Pot Drum Group Back In The Studio
An Alignment Of Our History With Future Music
HABIB
The concept of "DRUM GROUP" is not new. In Africa, drum groups were always communicating and drummers were the main communication as telephones, cell phones, radios, computers and tv were all non-existing.
The Melting Pot Drum Group plays Jazz and world music and does it in a unique was. Steve Habib, a drummer, becomes the bass player in the group, walking bass lines on timpani and using floor toms and Djembes and Dun Duns all similating a bass violin or the lower end of a piano. All the players in The Melting Pot Drum Group honor THE DRUM as the original form of communication and thus, harmonic lines are put together without horns, piano or bass and standard tunes are played as well as many original songs that Habib has written. The group has many players too numerous to mention here but all wre well known in the music field. Major trios, quartets, quintets and sextets have inquired about expanding the percussive dimension of their group presentation at Festivals and major concerts by adding The Melting Pot Drum Group into their budget and also featuring some of The Groups new, original music as well as utilize THE GROUP as "their drummer". The Melting Pot Drum Group is scheduled to go into the studio and finish work that has been in progress for years. Finally, the public will be able to hear this innovative collective of drumming geniuses and their compositions most probably by the end of March or early April 2010.
