Mosaic Records will be unleashing Bing Crosby: The Bing Crosby CBS Radio Recordings 1954-56 worldwide in November 2009. The limited edition box set features 160 songs recorded by Bing Crosby and accompanied by the Buddy Cole Quartet which consisted of Buddy Cole on keyboards, Vince Terri on guitar, Don Whitaker on bass, and Nick Fatool on drums and percussion. The tapings were restored by the Bing Crosby Estate and exhumed from Crosby’s radio show for CBS called The Bing Crosby Show which ran from 1954 to 1956. The repertoire includes a number of tunes written by Cole Porter, George Gershwin and Fats Waller. One 14-song session showcases clarinetist Matty Matlock, tenor saxophonist Fred Falensby, trumpeter Clyde Hurley, and trombonist Abe Lincoln. Though Crosby is well known for singing in his movies, this box set familiarizes people with his self-titled show which helped to promote the slogan “Bing is King,” a label that the press branded on Crosby and has remained a part of his legacy.

Crosby’s legacy was mainly fashioned from his vast dossier in the movies including the lead role in such motion pictures as White Christmas, The Bells Of Saint Mary, Going My Way, and Holiday Inn, as well as performing comedy skits with Bob Hope in their Road To… series and cameo appearances in My Favorite Brunette, Angels In The Outfield, and The Greatest Show On Earth. Crosby carved out a secure niche for himself as a magnetic singer, a dramatic actor, and a witty comedian in motion pictures, but his foray into the entertainment industry was as a radio broadcaster growing up in Washington state where his interest in music and film technology was piqued. The entertainment industry gave Crosby great opportunities, and in return, he furthered the industry’s pursuits and its young talent. He was a man with great presence and class possessing a voice that could tranquilize a herd of charging rhinoceroses and lead in the peaceful sonorous of church choirs. Mosaic Records limited edition box set celebrates Bing Crosby’s influence on music and television and familiarizes people with his vision of happiness.
