Pianist Shines in Informal Concert
Chick Corea can play the piano. Chick Corea can also play the audience and he enthralled the 400 plus in attendance before he ever sat down at the grand piano. Inviting everyone to spend the evening with him in his "living room" Corea carried on an informal conversation between songs explaining why he makes the choices he does and a little of their history. Digging into the old standards songbook, Corea put his own twist on "It Could Happen To You", Jobim's "Desafinado", Bill Evans "Waltz for Debby" and "Turn Out the Stars" and a new standard, Stevie Wonder's "Pastime Paradise". Mix that with Chopin, Mozart, Scriabin, and Corea and you have a solid evening of exquisite solo piano by a musician at the top of his game.
