This is not an attempt to write about Gloria Lynne's life. It's already been done and I'm not qualified to do so anyway.
Gloria Lynne was one of my faaavvoorite singers.
I first heard her as a young teen, on her signature album 'Lonely and Sentimental'. I fell in love with her voice (or was it her laying out all sexy on the couch?).
Her voice was flawless.
I asked her to sing 'Tis Autumn' at one of her concerts, but the band didn't know it. So, she sang it to me; A Cappella!. How good is that!
I was fortunate to see her several times in the last 10 years, and became a friend.
I last spoke with her on the phone as I was driving to the Newport Jazz Festival this year. I had just heard one of her songs on WBGO.
She was looking forward to her gig at 54 below in NYC. I told her I would try to make it, but I didn't; figuring I would see her another time. For All I Knew, We Would Never Meet Again.
Rest in Peace Gloria Lynne - I Wish You Love
