Kenny Washington at Havana Nights Jazz and Cigar Club in Virginia Beach, Va
West Coast vocalist shows why he is the best in the business
Kenny Washington may be small in stature, but when he starts to sing he is a giant in the world of jazz vocalists. Known mostly on the west coast this is Washington's second visit to the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area and fan's hope there are many more appearances to come. Accompanied by the John Toomey Trio (Toomey on piano, Jimmy Masters on bass and Jae Sinnett on drums) these four swinging musicians blended like a group who had been together for years instead of just one afternoon. Washington, equally adept at scatting, swinging, be-bopping, or just gently delivering a ballad, stood back and let each member of the trio have the spotlight throughout the evening. By the look on his face, he was digging what he heard as much as the audience. And what the audience heard was the best of the best.
