Dave Camp
Night Fall
Blue Orchid

With collaborator Peter White providing polished foundations and quirky additions, saxophonist/flutist Dave Camp offers an easygoing Night Fall (Blue Orchid 2026-2; 45:32) full of bright, intelligent tunes culled more from melody and musicianship than from atmospheric trappings. Camp showcases a range of skills in a small-ensemble environment, like a pure-toned flute lead on the lithe Latin piece, "Your Eyes," and a seductively dark sax line on "Losing You" which recalls Sade's "Smooth Operator." Camp and White show a cheekier side on "Spy vs. Spy," which offers Bond-recalling campy synth and a growling sax lead, and "Redemption," a funky dance track lent a swinging, unusual flavor by White's accordion texture.
