George Duke Tribute Show Saturday Night in NYC

Duke had been scheduled to perform at B.B. King's

George Duke, who died on Monday, had been scheduled to perform this coming Saturday night at B.B. King's in New York. Rather than cancel the show, the club has decided instead to stage a tribute to the departed keyboardist and producer. No artists have yet been announced. The club's announcement is as follows:

"To Music Fans Everywhere-

It is with deep regret that we learned of the passing of our dear friend and brother, George Duke. George was a Grammy winning musician who knew no musical boundaries, whose style and talent continually redefined jazz, funk, pop and music in general. He was also one of music's great storytellers and never missed a chance to give an inside look to his music or life to anyone who would listen.

Throughout his life and career, he had the opportunity to perform with the likes of Michael Jackson, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Cannonball Adderley, Billy Cobham, Frank Zappa and countless others - including, of course, his dear friend and collaborator Stanley Clarke with whom he formed the Clarke/Duke Project in the early 80s; a duo that continued to tour into 2013, with many stints at our sister venue the Blue Note Jazz Club. Recently, George served as musical director for the opening night of Washington DC's historic Howard Theatre, another BB King Blues Club sister venue.

George was scheduled to perform at BB Kings in Times Square this Saturday night, a performance we were very much looking forward to. To honor George, the show must go on. On Saturday, August 10, BB King Blues Club will present a very special tribute to George. All ticket holders for George's show are welcome to join us. Additional announcements regarding the show will be made as soon as possible. As details are confirmed, BB Kings will announce them on our website, via email blast and on our Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Please join us this Saturday to honor the memory of George Duke. We will make sure that it is a night that George would be proud of musically and as a friend. We will also collect donations for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, which will be donated in memory of George Duke. We are calling the event: A Special Tribute to George Duke: A Benefit to Fight Leukemia & Lymphoma."

There will be a lot of Tributes to the musical genius of George Duke.

We are all saddened and shocked by his death.
As a fan I was waiting for him to come to the Birchmere,
in Northern VA; he was scheduled to perform on that Wednesday , Aug 13 .

I want to express Kudo's and much respect to the management & staff of BB King's in NYC for honoring George by turning his performance date into a " Tribute " to his work and a Benefit to Cancer research that took George and his wife at relatively young ages.
I will miss you "Big Daddy" thanks for all those great concerts , music ; and good times !

George was a Musicians; Musician.... and a great human being !
