Loose & Juicy (Vanguard 79500-2, 57:46) is another dip into the rare groove waters, this one from the vaults of yet another highly respected label, Vanguard. This groove grab-bag is a pleasing collage of swirling vintage analog synth sounds and tres-'70s funk fusion vamps (and often goofy pop-funk trappings, like the exaggerated vocal intro to the Pazant Brothers and the Beaufort Express' "A Gritty Nitty."). Highlights include James Moody's playful "You Follow Me" and alto sax giant Bunky Green's "Funk Ain't a Word."
