‘Late Show’ Bassist Will Lee to Release First Leader Album in 20 Years
Guests include Pat Metheny, Steve Lukather, Steve Gadd, Allen Toussaint & others
Will Lee, bassist for the past two decades in the CBS Orchestra on Late Night with David Letterman (and for 11 years before that during Letterman’s tenure on NBC), will release Love, Gratitude and Other Distractions, his first album as a leader in 20 years, on Aug. 20. Lee, who is also a member of the Beatles tribute band the Fab Faux, will release the album via Sinning Saint Ltd.
Joining Lee on the album are guitarists Steve Lukather, Pat Metheny and ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons, former Weather Report drummer Peter Erskine, vocalist Akiko Yano, drummer Steve Gadd, former Mahavishnu Orchestra drummer and pop producer Narada Michael Walden, pianist-composer Bob James and guitarist Chuck Loeb of Fourplay, New Orleans pianist/songwriter Allen Toussaint and Letterman Show musical director and multi-faceted keyboardist Paul Shaffer. Will also shares songwriting credits on the album with Willie Nile, Leni Stern, Oli Rockberger, John Tropea and Dave Delhomme.
Lee’s last recording as a leader was 1993’s Oh!.
