William Murphy and The Angel Headed Hipsters
Monkey In The Zoo
Atomic Theory

Willie Murphy & The Angel Headed Hipsters turn in spirited, funky performances that occasionally touch on the blues on their debut, Monkey In The Zoo (Atomic Theory 1125; 62:49). Pieces like "Kamikaze," "The World Is A Neighbor" and the title track are closer in spirit to groups like P-Funk and Defunkt than any blues icons. They throw in a strange ska version of the Wilson Pickett classic "Midnight Hour" and funkify Jerry Lewis' "Great Balls Of Fire." Some would call it sacrilege. I just call it silly.
