According to a press release, “The event is a celebration of the six-week collaboration between United Jazz Foundation and the Urban Assembly School for the Performing Arts, supported by Jazz at Lincoln Center. Under the direction of drummer Dion Parson, the final showcase will feature more than 20 students who participated in Mentoring Through the Arts of Music, along with Tabari Lake, the youngest participant of the U.S. Virgin Islands program, and other musicians.”

The release further states, “Mentoring Through the Arts of Music, created and directed by Dion Parson, is a music education program that guides musically inclined young students, helps them develop their goals in life, and prepares them for a professional career. The mentorship provided by the initiative is essential for the future development of the students and makes a distinguishable difference in whether they are successful in life as well as in the art of music. The guidance of world-class musicians who have already made this transition will offer students a real-time perspective of their future possibilities. The program is also geared to help students sustain their individual cultures while giving back to their community. Mentoring through the Arts of Music is proudly sponsored by Jazz at Lincoln Center (USA); Government of the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Department of Tourism (USVI).”

Parson & 21st Century Band will also performs at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola June 27-30.
