Johnny Griffin
Do Nothing Til You Hear From Me
Original Jazz Classics

Recorded the day after the great Full House date that united Griffin and the Kelly-Chambers-Cobb rhythm team with Wes Montgomery, this session features the other Montgomerys and Art Taylor. Buddy and Monk were good, not great players, and Griffin's approach is subdued compared to the previous night's fireworks. It's instructive to hear how differently a lot of the same ideas get used, especially on the blues tunes, but mostly it's just a gas to hear Johnny stretch out with some of his best quartet playing.
