Nature Of The Beast
Enja Records

Guitarist-singer Clarence Spady deals in funky backbeats and stinging blues licks on Nature Of The Beast (Evidence, 52:29). A new talent out of Scranton, Pennsylvania who was recently touted by Living Blues magazine as one of the "Top 40 Under 40," Spady has a sly, snarling vocal style that gives him street credibility and his guitar chops are no joke. His funky James Brown influence comes out strongest on "A Good Fool Is Hard To Find," based on "Sex Machine." The combination of tenor sax and organ also lends a fresh twist to Spady's blues, particularly on a swinging rendition of Clifford Brown's "Blues Walk."
