Susan Tedeschi is a new name on the blues scene. She plays guitar but is bound to make more of an impression with her raw, gritty vocal powers. On Just Won't Burn (Tone-Cool 1164; 46:01) she summons up comparisons to Janis Joplin...well, maybe Kim Carnes meets Marcia Ball is more accurate. She sings and plays with a lot of heart and also demonstrates a talent for songwriting on this strong debut. Yeah, she's real.
