Terence Blanchard Curates Six Shows with Detroit Symphony
Miles Davis/Gil Evans program among the featured shows
The Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO) has announced its lineup for the Paradise Jazz Series 2013-2014 season, which will include six appearances with artists hand-selected by trumpeter and composer Terence Blanchard. Blanchard, who became the DSO Fred A. & Barbara M. Erb Jazz Creative Chair last season with the sponsorship of MGM Grand Detroit, is the only Chair in series history committed to making special guest appearances during his tenure. Blanchard currently serves as Artistic Director of the Henry Mancini Institute at the University of Miami Frost School of Music, and previously was artistic director at the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz.
On February 6, 2014, he will appear onstage with Peter Erskine, Sean Jones and Christian McBride to present music from Miles Ahead, Porgy and Bess and Sketches of Spain during the Midwest premier of "Miles Davis & Gil Evans: Still Ahead."
