Prime Cuts: Prom Punky Breaks to Funky House (Irma America, 42847822, 71:14) is a spotty collection of breakbeat-oriented dance tracks, some too fast to really allow you to get your groove on-Voo Doo Phunk's oddly titled "We Got the Funky" and others, like the Last Minister's "Feel Free," larded in clich . Sure there are some interesting instrumental touches here and there, but its hard to shake that slightly irritating Euro-dance vibe, as well as the heard-it-before ring that runs through most of this material.

If funk, as George Clinton says, was really born in outer space, then Sun Ra was undoubtedly the funkiest guy alive.
