Syracuse Jazz Fest Announces Lineup for 31st Annual Event
Yellowjackets, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Doobie Brothers among scheduled acts
The 31st annual M&T Syracuse Jazz Fest will take place July 4-6, at a new site,
Jamesville Beach Park, located just outside Syracuse, N.Y., according to festival founder and executive producer Frank Malfitano.
Highlights of this year’s event will include New Orleans’ Preservation Hall Jazz Band, the Yellowjackets, saxophonist Ronnie Laws, vocalist Kat Wright, the Brubeck Brothers Quartet and Syracuse’s own Sophistafunk.
Headliners the Doobie Brothers, GrandMothers of Invention and Taylor Dayne will close out each of the festival’s evenings.
The festival's educational program returns this year for the 22nd year, with clinics scheduled daily for visiting high school jazz ensembles and community-based musicians. This year's workshops will feature visiting artists appearing at the festival, including the GrandMothers of Invention, the Brubeck Brothers Quartet and the Yellowjackets: saxophonist Bob Mintzer, guitarist Mike DiMicco, keyboardists Don Preston and Chuck Lamb, and vocalist, front man and saxophonist Napoleon Murphy Brock.
