Dick Morgan
Spellbound
Foxhaven

Pianist Dick Morgan, no rookie when it comes to recordings, is one of Washington, DC's most distinguished artists. Morgan comes to the music honestly, ready to deliver not only skilled touch but a sense of that gravitational pull known as swing that is irresistible when properly showcased. He also brings a refreshing sense of dynamics, and nowhere is this more in evidence than on "I'll Always Be in Love With You." The familiar Going Out Of My Head brings the classic blue voice of Etta Jones to the mic for a ballad arrangement replete with gentle string synthesizer backdrop. Spellbound is a delicious slice right in Etta's pocket, and the spiritual "I Want Jesus to Walk With Me" is hauntingly delivered with Tony Williams on alto sax, and "Foxhaven Blues" is Morgan at his growling, low gravy best.
