Percussionist Ricky Loza is a native of El Salvador now living in Washington, DC. This album is a piano combo, with additional rhythm. The program includes jazz standards, and originals by his bandmates, pianist Fred Hughes and bassist Tom Williams.
The music moves along at an easy going lilt, marshaled by the leader's drums and timbales, which impart an identifiably unique Central American feel, softer than Latin jazz, but just as captivating and affecting.
