This Cuban flugelhornist, singer, and composer is garnering attention in the States for his audibly evident showmanship, which may have something to do with his additional experience as actor and impresario. Carcassés can get corny, particularly on his Latinization of American standards, but he's also imaginative, with hints of raga, rock, funk, rap, scat, and pop inside the expected Latin structure, and his ensembles sustain the entertainment.
