JALC will also celebrate the lives and music of South African legend Hugh Masekela and promoter George Wein. The Dave Brubeck Festival will pay homage to the late pianist and composer at Frederick P. Rose Hall.

Guitarist Bill Frisell will join the organization as curator of the new Roots of Americana Series. The new season will also usher in the A Side/B Side Series, spotlighting two contemporary artists over the course of one weekend in the Allen Room. On each evening, two separate performances will take place, with one featured artist performing at 7 p.m., and a second featured artist performing at 9:30 p.m. Vijay Iyer and the Sun Ra Arkestra with Marshall Allen are scheduled to perform on the Jazz at Lincoln Center stages for the first time.

The JALC Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis will embark on two new tours: Abyssinian: A Gospel Celebration U.S. Tour with Chorale Le Chateau conducted by Damien Sneed; and Big Band Holidays U.S. Tour with special guest Cécile McLorin Salvant.

Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Education initiatives will expand in 2013-14.
