Frank London’s Shekhinah Big Band Plans Residency in NYC
21-member outfit will bring together klezmer and big band jazz
Trumpeter and bandleader Frank London has announced the premiere of his Shekhinah Big Band , a 21-piece outfit that will merge klezmer (London is a member of the Klezmatics) and big band music. The band will make its debut at the Stone, John Zorn’s club in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, and will play on four consecutive Mondays: Feb. 4, 11, 18 and 25. Shows begin at 8 p.m. and admission is $10.

Acording to a press release, “The Shekhinah Big Band’s Monday night residency will be an opportunity for the band to take chances and find its voice, as a new musical genre is revealed. Audiences will have a rare chance to see and hear the processes of creation unfolding as Shekhinah finds its identity in this workshop.”
