Artifacts from Miles, Ellington, Baker and others will also be displayed
The Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, Ark., will open a major exhibition of jazz photographer Herman Leonard’s work on March 2, Jazz: Through The Eyes Of Herman Leonard
Additionally, the Clinton Library curator (Christine Mouw) has also assembled artist artifacts from the Smithsonian, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and other museums and private estates: Louis Armstrong’s trumpet, mouthpiece, monogrammed handkerchief and laundry bill for 75 handkerchiefs; Duke Ellington’s travel piano; Miles Davis’ flugelhorn and stage costume; Chet Baker’s trumpet that appears in Herman’s famous photograph of him, and much more.
The Library is expecting over 10,000 school children to also attend the exhibition during its run, and is putting together study programs for the teachers to discuss the importance of jazz to American culture, history and music.
