Benny Goodman’s Carnegie Hall Concert to Be Revisited

Ken Peplowski, Lew Tabackin, Terrell Stafford & others to participate

A group of contemporary musicians will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Benny Goodman Orchestra’s landmark Carnegie Hall concert of Jan. 16, 1938, the first time that jazz was performed at the highbrow venue. From Jan. 15-20, at New York’s Blue Note, under the direction of Ken Peplowski, the show will be resurrected with a lineup featuring Lew Tabackin (tenor sax), Ehud Ashaire (piano), Clifton Anderson (trombone), Terrell Stafford (trumpet), Willie Jones III (drums), Linda Oh/Martin Wind (bass), Yotam (guitar) and Monte Croft (vibes).

Peplowski, a former member of the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, was hired to play tenor saxophone when Benny Goodman came out of retirement in 1984. He went on to record close to 20 albums as a leader.

Shows take place at 8:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. The Blue Note is located at 131 W. 3rd Street in Manhattan. Tickets are $15-35.
