Pete La Roca Sims Tribute Concert Set for Dec. 28 in NYC

Drummer died Nov. 20 at age 74

A tribute concert to the late drummer Pete La Roca Sims will take place Friday, December 28, from 8-10 p.m. at Saint Peters Church in New York City. The event is a fundraiser aimed at preserving the biographical and compositional legacy of the musician, who performed under the name Pete La Roca. The suggested donation is $25.

Performing will be Slide Hampton, Steve Kuhn, Dave Liebman, George Cables, David Weiss, Jimmy Owens, Carl Allen, Louis Hayes, Joanne Brackeen, Lou Grassi, Lew Tabackin Michael Weiss, Chales Davis and Bill Kirchner. A memorial and special words and voices will be provided by the Sims Morgan and Harvey Families. The church is located at 619 Lexington Ave., at 5th Avenue.

Henry Grimes will also be playing. He and Pete LaRoca went all the way back to 1959, when they played, toured, and recorded with Sonny Rollins.
