Connecticut Benefit Concert Will Celebrate Brubeck’s 92nd Birthday
Richie Cannata & Bernie Williams will perform to raise funds for Haiti hospital
A concert taking place in Waterbury, Conn., on Dec. 6 will double as a 92nd birthday salute to Dave Brubeck and an opportunity to raise funds toward purchasing land in Haiti for the construction of a hospital. Presented by Jazz’d 4 Life, the show will take place at the Palace Theater, 100 E. Main Street in Waterbury. Performing will be saxophonist Richie Cannata, best known for his work with Billy Joel, and guitarist Bernie Williams, the former New York Yankees outfielder turned musician.
The concert is being organized by Dave Brubeck’s daughter, Catherine Brubeck Yaghsizian, a founder of Jazz'd 4 Life, a nonprofit organization. Brubeck himself will not attend but it is expected that his son, Darius Brubeck, himself a well known jazz artist, will sit in.
Jazz’d 4 Life has raised money to build a school in Haiti and contributed to other projects on the island.
