Cécile McLorin Salvant Signs to Mack Avenue Records
Winner of the 2010 Monk Competition will release her debut next year
Mack Avenue Records has signed singer Cécile McLorin Salvant, winner of the 2010 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocals Competition. Salvant, 23, will release her debut album, Woman Child, next year.
Salvant, who is from Miami, won competition in 2010, impressing judges Patti Austin, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kurt Elling, Al Jarreau and Dianne Reeves.
The forthcoming album will feature label mates Aaron Diehl and Rodney Whitaker (Diehl's Mack Avenue debut is set for February 19 release) as well as Herlin Riley and James Chirillo.
