Cyrille Aimée Wins First Sarah Vaughan Vocal Competition
Singer takes home $5,000 prize and will open 2013 Jazz Roots concert
Brooklyn-based French singer Cyrille Aimée has taken first place honors in the first Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, held Oct. 21 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark, N.J. Aimée won the Sassy Award, a $5,000 prize, and an opening spot at a 2013 Jazz Roots concert.
First runner-up Ashleigh Smith of Lewisville, Tex., won $1,500 and second runner-up Sandra Booker of Sherman Oaks, Calif., won $500. Jazzmeia Horn of Dallas, Tex., won the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition Rising Star Award. The competition, presented by Jazz Roots, WBGO radio and NJPAC, was produced by Larry Rosen.
