Two Upcoming NYC Blues Shows of Note
Harmonica ace James Cotton and a tribute to Big Bill Broonzy
New York City will play host to two blues events of note in the near future. On Sept. 28-29, harmonica legend James Cotton will perform at the Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center. The show kicks off JALC’s Blues Series this season. Cotton’s Superharp Band includes Cotton, harmonica; Darrell Nulisch, vocals; Tom Holland, guitar/vocals; Noel Neal, bass/vocals; Jerry Porter, drums.
The Allen Room, in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall, is located in the Time Warner Center in New York.Ticket prices are $65 for the 7:30 p.m. sets and $55 for the 9:30 p.m. sets, and can be purchased through JALC or CenterCharge at 212-721-6500.
On Oct. 11, Bob Riesman, author of I Feel So Good: The Life and Times of Big Bill Broonzy (University of Chicago Press), and blues harp master Billy Boy Arnold, who just released Billy Boy Arnold Sings Big Bill Broonzy, will come together at 92Y Tribeca, 200 Hudson Street. Showtime is 6:30 p.m. and admission is $15.
