Jazz Composers Collective to Stage 20th Anniversary Festival

Shows will take place at Jazz Standard, NYC, Nov. 6-11

The 20th anniversary of the first Jazz Composers Collective concert is this fall and to commemorate this occasion, its founding members—Ben Allison (bass), Michael Blake (saxophone), Ron Horton (trumpet), Frank Kimbrough (piano) and Ted Nash (saxophone)—will lead 11 bands at the Jazz Composers Collective 20th Anniversary Festival. The shows will take place at the Jazz Standard in New York City from November 6-11.

Allison said he is “thrilled to reunite with Michael, Ron, Frank, and Ted to revisit [old] music and play new works too.” The Jazz Composers Collective was a fierce organizational force in the music scene in NYC from 1992 to 2005. Its mission was to advance the development and presentation of new music while building new audiences for creative Jazz. The Collective provided musicians with “opportunities to create and perform original compositions,” said Allison, while maintaining artistic integrity and presenting Jazz as ever-evolving music.
