Toots Thielemans, 90, to Play JALC Sept. 28-29

Herbie Hancock will be special guest

Jazz harmonica pioneer Toots Thielemans will celebrate his 90th birthday with performances featuring special guest Herbie Hancock at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater on September 28-29 at 8 p.m. The NEA Jazz Master other guests will include pianist Kenny Werner, guitarist Oscar Castro-Neves, pianist/vocalist Eliane Elias, vocalist Ivan Lins, vocalist/guitarist Dori Caymmi, bassist Marc Johnson and drummer Rafael Barata.

Thielemans last performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center in 2004 at Alice Tully Hall.

A free pre-concert lecture will be led by Kenny Werner nightly at 7 p.m.
