Luciana Souza & Romero Lubambo: Live at Stanford Jazz Festival
Stuart Brinin shares photos from recent concert in California
Brazilian singer Luciana Souza accompanied by fellow Brazilian, guitarist Romero Lubambo, performed a duo concert at the Stanford Jazz Festival on June 29th. The festival, along with its Jazz Camp and Workshops, is celebrating its 40th anniversary season. Souza and Lubambo weaved a mezmorizing set, including sambas by Jobim and Gilberto Gil, and a beautiful “brasiliera” standard by Milton Nascimento.
Souza, a respected composer herself, performed a song she wrote that was influenced by the poetry of the iconic songwriter Leonard Cohen, and another written by her father Walter Santos, a former singing partner of Joao Gilberto. The evening turned into a lovefest between Souza and Lubambo who have an amazing musical connection. Here are some of my photos from that performance.
