Christian Scott to Release New Album, ‘Christian aTunde Adjuah’
Album title is also the trumpeter/composer’s new name
Trumpeter-composer Christian Scott will releases a new album, Christian aTunde Adjuah (pronounced ah • tune • day - ah • ju • ah) on July 31 on Concord Jazz. The two-disc, 23-track collection, the follow-up to Scott’s Yesterday You Said Tomorrow, features guitarist Matthew Stevens, drummer Jamire Williams, bassist Kris Funn and pianist Lawrence Fields, as well guests tenor saxophonist Kenneth Whalum III, alto saxophonist Louis Fouche IIII and trombonist Corey King.
The title of the album, Christian aTunde Adjuah, described in a press release as “arguably the most personal project to date for the young artist,” also serves as the artist’s new name, and the album cover depicts Scott in the traditional attire of his culture the Black Indians of New Orleans.
