Previously Unreleased e.s.t. Album Out Today
Sessions were recorded shortly before pianist Esbjörn Svensson’s death in 2008
An album of previously unheard music by e.s.t. (Esbjörn Svensson Trio), titled 301, is being released today by ACT Music. The album is the group’s second following the death of pianist Esbjörn Svensson prior to the release of the band’s last album, 2008’s Leucocyte. The seven-track album features Svensson with longtime band mates, drummer Magnus Öström and bassist Dan Berglund.
The album is titled after the Australian recording studio, Studio 301, where they recorded nine hours’ worth of material. Those sessions resulted in Leucocyte, but the rest of the material remained unreleased after Svensson’s passing on June 14, 2008. Last fall, Berglund and Öström revisited the material with their regular sound engineer Ake Linton, and pieced together the new release.
