JALC to Present New Orleans Celebration

May shows to spotlight Jelly Roll Morton and NOLA Piano Kings

Jazz at Lincoln Center will present a New Orleans Celebration May 11-12 with two separate shows. “The Music of Jelly Roll Morton,” featuring the Marcus Roberts Octet, will take place at the Rose Theater and the Allen Room will host “New Orleans Piano Kings,” featuring Ellis Marsalis, Henry Butler, Jon Batiste and music director Herlin Riley. Reginald Veal will play bass on the latter program. Both venues are located at Broadway and 60th Street in Manhattan.

Pianist Roberts’ group includes drummer Jason Marsalis, bassist Rodney Jordon as well as Alphonso Horne (trumpet), Ron Westray (trombone), Stephen Riley (tenor saxophone), Ricardo Pascal (tenor and soprano saxophones) and Joe Goldberg (clarinet). Performances of “The Music of Jelly Roll Morton” take place at 8 p.m. on both nights and Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Ken Druker will host pianist Terry Waldo in a free pre-concert discussion nightly at 7 p.m. Performances of “New Orleans Piano Kings” take place both evenings at 7:30 p.m. & 9:30 p.m.

Ticket prices for Rose Theater are $10, $30, $50, $75, $95, $120, dependent on seat location. Ticket prices for the Allen Room are $10, $55 & $65, dependent on concert time and seat location. $10 Hot Seats are available for each Rose Theater performance and select performances in the Allen Room and are available for purchase to the general public on the Wednesday of each performance week, subject to availability. All tickets can be purchased through JALC or CenterCharge at 212-721-6500, open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Box Office, located on Broadway at 60th Street, ground floor. Box Office hours: Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (or 30 minutes past curtain) and Sunday from noon to 6pm (or 30 minutes past curtain).
