Ryan Truesdell to Perform Lost Gil Evans Works in NYC
Jazz Standard concerts will feature 35 musicians
Producer and conductor Ryan Truesdell will perform the music from his new CD Centennial: Newly Discovered Works of Gil Evans at the Jazz Standard in Manhattan on May 17 - 20.
For the concert, the band—which features 35 New York musicians including Lewis Nash, Donny McCaslin, Steve Wilson, Frank Kimbrough, Greg Gisbert and Marshall Gilkes—will perform a range of Evans’ music, including works from the CD that have never before been heard.
Truesdell, perhaps best-known for co-producing Maria Schneider’s Sky Blue in 2007 and 2004’s Concert in the Garden, is the first person outside of the Evans family to be granted full access to the musical archives.
The CD will be released by ArtistShare on May 13 (GilEvansProject.com). It was recorded by the Grammy award-winning engineer James Farber.
