2012 Yamaha Six String Theory Competition Accepting Entries

Guitar and rhythm section contest aims to create opportunities for aspiring musicians

Lee Ritenour’s 2012 Yamaha Six String Theory Competition is now accepting entries. Guitarists can enter in the genres of rock, blues, jazz/fusion, acoustic, classical/flamenco or country by submitting an online video audition. New this year in the Six String Theory Competition is the Lee Ritenour and Dave Grusin Rhythm Section Competition, to which musicians who play piano, bass or drums can enter in the genres of jazz, fusion, rock, blues or contemporary. Prizes include a Berklee College of Music Scholarship, recording and mentoring opportunities, guitars, cash and travel packages, with the finalist receiving scholarships to attend The Crown of the Continent Guitar Workshop. Winners also have the opportunity to record with Lee Ritenour on his 2012 Concord Records release.

Ritenour, a Grammy award-winning guitarist, composer and producer, created the Six String competition in 2010. Pianist and composer Dave Grusin, who heads the advisory board for the rhythm section competition, is an Oscar winner and a Grammy nominee. The competition aims to support aspiring musicians and help them create professional music careers.

Submissions to both the guitar and rhythm section competitions will be accepted until May 1. More information can be found at their website.
