Stan Kenton Retrospective Concert Coming to NYC
Manhattan School of Music show will feature Kenton standards
On March 2, at 7:30 p.m., the Manhattan School of Music Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Justin DiCioccio will present a big band retrospective of Stan Kenton’s music, the second concert in a two-part Kenton Centennial Celebration at MSM. This concert will include standards such as “Artistry in Rhythm,” “The Peanut Vendor,” “Concerto to End All Concertos” and “Artistry Jumps,” as well as the complete Contemporary Concepts album from the mid-1950s.
The concert takes place in the School’s John C. Borden Auditorium, and requires a ticket, $10/$5 for students and seniors by calling 917 493 4428. December 15th, 2011 marked the centennial of Stan Kenton’s birth; he died in 1979.
